VS Code Extension Bug

Hello,

I would like to report a bug with the Visual Studio Code nRF Connect extensions.

When I created a new project, The Welcome tab, Applications tab, and Build tab all reverted to their base state (as if nothing was loaded) (only the big buttons visible), and the buttons did not do anything.\

I was able to fix this by uninstalling the extension pack and reinstalling it.

I also saw this same issue when I tried using the standalone nRF terminal and nRFConnect extensions (ie: not part of the extension pack).

  • Thanks for reporting the bug, I've forwarded it internally. I'll keep you updated.

    Best regards,

    Simon

  • Could you provide some detailed steps on how to reproduce this issue?

  • First: Start with a workspace with a few different applications in it.

Second: open the welcome page and create a new application from sample. I saw this bug when using the AGPS example.

Third: note that the welcome, applications, and build sections on the left look like this and do not recover:

Fourth: attempt to press any of the buttons. Note that they do not do anything.

Restarting VS Code did not fix the issue for me. I can recover from this bug by uninstalling and reinstalling the nRFConnect pack in VS Code.

Note: this does not happen to me all the time. It happened when I only had one other application in the workspace but I have not seen it sense. I always see my screen look like the picture after the third step, but usually it will "load" and become normal after a couple of seconds.

Note: NordicMainGPS is the name of the first application in my Application List.

I am using windows 10, the latest version of VS Code, the latest version of your extension pack, and the following extensions:

  • Just wanted to make a note. It appears that VS Code updated today, I was on the previous version when the bug happened.

  • Do you still see this issue with the newest version of VS Code?

I didn't see this issue on my Linux machine, so I installed vs code on a another machine using Windows 10.

First I though I was able to reproduce your issue, because I installed the nRF Connect extension, then created a new application from sample and saw the same behavior (Couldn't see the app in the left window, and "Open welcome page", "add application" did not respond to button presses).

However, then I followed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KwJtcPZHV30&list=PLx_tBuQ_KSqEt7NK-H7Lu78lT2OijwIMl&index=2, and opened vscode from the Toolchain Manager. I saw that I had only installed the "nRF Connect Extension", and not the "nRF Connect Extension Pack" (which include all the other extensions). After opening vscode from the Toolchain Manager (and installing the other extensions), I'm not able to reproduce it anymore.

I will forward all this internally

Could you provide support information. By clicking "ctrl + p" and selection "Generate support information"?

    Best regards,

    Simon
