nRF51822 Maximum Range

Hi All,

I would like to design a wireless system using nRF51822 with an effective range >100m LoS and 5m under water.The system is used as a ON-OFF control device powered from battery.The trigger is initiated by a smart phone or a remote (own design using nRF51822) and the receiver has to send back the remaining battery capacity. Can I use any range extender (PA + LNA, eg. TI's CC2592) to increase the effective range?

Hi,

Yes, you can definitely use a range extender such as a PA or LNA. If you want to use your phone as enabler you are likely to be limited by the range of the BLE chip on your phone.

You can use the internal ADC set to listen to VCC to be able to read remaining battery voltage. See the adc_simple example for implementation.

Thanks for the reply.

We are planning to fuel gauge solution to measure the battery.use Can we use skyworks SE2425U as range extender to increase the effective range?if not do you have any suggestions?

That should work. Do note that the maximum output power for the SE2425U exceeds the BLE limit of 10mW so you will have to adjust the power you send into the amplifier.
