nRF9160 used as a LTE modem with Ethernet interface

Hi there,

I was wondering, is there any project or plan to use the nRF9160 as a modem with standard ethernet interface ? The ethernet interface could be either

- RMII, the nRF9160 would act as the PHY
- Ethernet SPI, the nRF would act as the MAC + PHY. Similar to a DM9051 for example. That would probably be easier, as it could be software only. 

Of course, all the specific of LTE config + the GPS would still work on AT Commands. 

Please let me know if that's of interest and if you know of any such initiative.

Looking into the issue, I realise PPPoS is a more commun approach to integrate a ATCommand-based modem into the IP stack. It is slower but should do the job for IoT products.
