9160 network selection

hi support team，

how to select network manually, using “8.1 PLMN selection +COPS”   or "8.16 Mobile network operator %XOPCONF", which command should customer use, and what's the difference?

for end customer in America searched network and find Verizon, but when using AT+COPS=1,2,"311480", 9160 can't attach to Verizon., if my understanding is correct.

for "8.16 Mobile network operator %XOPCONF", i think it is the same function.

Why do they need to select the network manually?

We generally recommend that they let the modem select the PLMN automatically.

But, they should be using the +COPS command for selecting the PLMN.

how does our modem select PLMN? select the best signal?  or the first signal modem detected?

The modem will first try to find the SIM cards home network (which is in the SIM cards data). If the home network is not available, it will try to connect to the next preferred network (also specified by the SIM card), etc.

Signal strength only comes into play when the modem is choosing which cell to connect to. It will always try the strongest cell of the PLMN it tries to connect to.
