Anyone in Canada able to connect to Bands 2,4,5 ?

Hi guys,

After weeks and weeks of trying with 3 different boards (Thingy91, nrf9160DK and Custom board), combination of different LTE Antennas, Bell, Hologram and iBasis SIMs I am unable to connect to any band other than band 12.

I wanted to reach out and see if there is anyone in Canada who has been able to connect to any other bands. If you don't mind sharing your settings and hardware config!

I am in GTA and have also tried multiple cities in and around GTA. I have used https://www.cellmapper.net/ to see what bands are available with Rogers, Telus and Bell.

Thank you guys in Advance!

  • Hello Noaman,

Good day. I have asked my team to check whether we have this type of information (overview of frequency band how Greater Torento Area is covered).

The nRF9160 supports the following bands according to our product specification:

    • Cat-M1: B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B8, B12, B13, B14, B17, B18, B19, B20, B25, B26, B28, B66

    • Cat-NB1/NB2: B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B8, B12, B13, B17, B19, B20, B25, B26, B28, B6

Certification for nRF9160 is completed for the areas are shown in below table . You can find in this link as well- nRF9160 global certifications - nordicsemi.com

It seems like B2,B4,B5,B12,B13,B25 and B66 should work in Canada according to the attached table. Though other factors could also work here depending on how telco service providers operating on allocated frequency band. Could you please contact the telco service providers (Hologram and ibasis) to know which band they are operating on under specific Network type?

You also can contact to our RSM in your area.

I will let you know whenever I will get access to the specific information ('if there is anyone in Canada who has been able to connect to any other bands') you asked for.

    Best Regards,

  • Hello Noaman,

I got reply from our Product Manager, Cellur IoT. The three careers you mentioned Bell is the only real carrier which uses B4, B5 and B12 in Canada. Not sure about which carriers the others roam to.

You can look at this is good details: https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/f/nordic-q-a/44779/about-cellular-band-selection-whole-picture-needed about cellular band discussed in this earlier thread.

Hope it helps. Feel free to ask if you have more information to know.
