Are there any constraints for nRF9160 SiP Revision 1 with modem firmware V1.3.1 constraints?

As said in the title. I can see on this page, under "nRF9160 SiP modem firmware"

that: "It can be used for nRF9160 SiP Revision 1, but only for testing and development".

I was wanting to find out why this is, and what kind of constraints I can expect to come across by using this revision of the SiP modem firmware.

    nRF9160 SiP revision 2 is a different hardware compared to revision 1. Hence, our modem firmware would have to be certified towards the carriers for both revision, which we have decided not to do with modem firmware 1.3.x.

    Additionally, revision 1 uses a different PMIC that can create challenges regarding power consumption.

    So we strongly recommend nRF9160 SiP revision 2 for production solutions with modem firmware 1.3.x.

    To clarify - revision 1 should still be able to use all the features on modem firmware 1.3.x, but will be less power efficient due to the different PMIC?

    Would you be able to quantify how much less efficient it would be, perhaps for example running AGPS? No worries if not :)

    yes, you can use all features provided by modem firmware 1.3.x. But since we do not test and certify against revision 1, we can not guarantee that everything will work as desired.

    Unfortunately, I can not give you any concrete numbers. Under normal circumstances, everything should run as for mfw 1.2.x, but it could be a good idea to be aware of the general current consumption in idle/normal operation mode and possible current peaks.

    One more thing that could be good to consider as well is that it is not possible to order revision 1 products anymore after the 30th of November, 2021.
