PPK2 and nRF52840-dongle windows driver

I try to remove and add driver from the Device manager and now in the Device manager I see only two lines  'PPK2' and 'nRF52 Connectivity' and Windows can't install driver for them. The cause of my deal was change COM port number because it conflict with other equipment. So what can I do? Do you have some driver pack for manual installation?

  • I know how I can change the Port number for Prolific and other virtual COM port devices, but I can't find the same possibility for nRF Connect USB CDC ACM. For example now it is COM5, what can I do for assign it as COM15, is it possible?

  • Hey Dimitri,

I believe this is a problem since you are using Windows 7. In Windows 8 and later versions, there is a default driver for USB serial communication, usbser.sys driver, and changing the COM port seems to work fine. When you are using Windows 7, CDC ACM driver installation is required. Did you install the Win7 driver ? kindly refer this for instructions.

  • Very strange, but I have exactly the same picture on both Windows 7 and Windows 10 computers (even on Win11) with my PPK2 device. I see "CDC ACM" driver without any dialog for change port. When I try tu update driver to "nRF5_SDK_17.0.2_d674dde\examples\usb_drivers" I got message that the same driver is already installed.

  • Hi Dimitry,

You are right.. the port numbers cannot be changed in our PC as well. We were not aware of this and thankyou for letting us know. We don't usually change the COM port number when testing applications and changing the COM port number of the DKs seems to work perfectly fine. I assume that it is because it's the nRF connects driver that connects the PPK, but with DK, it is a generic windows serial driver.

change COM port number because it conflict with other equipment

Perhaps try changing the COM port number of the other device?

    Swathy
