Audio Stream, Music Play from mobile via SoC

Looking up to Nordic guys for solution to

• Play music from mobile to the connected BLE Slave device which has speaker connected.
• Stream audio or play music/mp3 from phone to this slave.
• Stereo Audio play.

So which BLE SoC will be best for such arrangement? Do Nordic have any SoC which is the apt solution to this to achive.

Hi,

Unfortunately the data rates for BLE are too low to comfortably send high quality audio, the maximum datarate is currently about 150kbps, while a 44,1kHz 16bit audio signal(CD quality) takes about 770kbps per channel, that means 1500kbps for stereo.

If 150kbps is the maximum, what would you say is the typical data rate, and does it differ from nRF51 to nRF52, or is it a BT4.2 limitation?

Additionally, is there any difference on the maximum data rate in physical layer and application layer (I understand that data is eaten as the information travels up the layers)? - I read somewhere that the bottleneck is in the application layer.

The limitation is in BT4.2. You sacrifice some data rate for serviceability and other features, so the data rate is a little higher in the physical layer.

Hey, I am digging into the same topic. My question is: If data rates are too low, how does audio over Bluetooth work at all then? Makes no sense to me :S
