nRF5340 Port Pins 5 Volt Compatibility

Dear, I want to interface nRF5340 to normal 16x2 Alphanumeric LCD running on 5 Volt. Are the Port pins of nRF5340  5 Volt compatible when nRF is running with 3.3 Volt supply ? I am using nRF5340DK kit and SES IDE with nRF Connect SDK. Please guide in that refference. May, we run nRF5340DK SOC on 5 Volt ?

Hi,

The nRF5340 board can be supplied with 5 V externally only in high voltage mode. GPIO pins cannot have more than 3.6 V in normal voltage mode and 3.3 V in high voltage mode. If you are planning to connect nRF5340 board (max 3.3 V) with LCD (5 V) using GPIO pins, you would need a level shifter.
