Which IDE to use

I recently acquired an nRF52 DK and from what I have found on the Nordic site I inferred that I should install SES and VS Code and then later I found nRF Connect. They all seem to be IDEs. Do I need both? Is one preferred?

Hello!

nRF Connect for VS Code is newer and much easier to get started with than SES, so I would definitely recommend choosing VS Code.
