Programming Thingy:91 from nRF5340DK

Hi,

to program Thingy:91 (nRF52 and nRF91 insidde), can I use nRF5340DK? (both to flash MCU and modem)

Thanks

  • Hi,

From the infocenter you may find the information for updating the firmware for the Thingy:91 through an external debugger. Generally, the firmware can be updated and debugged by using an external programmer/debug probe, for example nRF9160DK or J-Link device supporting Arm Cortex-M33. In the link supplied, there is a note that states that "you may use a debug probe that supports ARM Cortex-M33, such as a nRF9160DK, or a nRF5340PDK". But it is a requirement that the external probe is 1.8v compatible, which the nRF5340PDK is not.

To summarize: No, the nRF5340DK can not be used as a external probe for flashing the Thingy:91 as it does not have 1.8V debug capabilities.

I hope this answers your question,

    Kind regards,
    Andreas
