PCA953X driver intégration

Hi, 

I want to use the pca953X driver present in the latest version of Zephyr. 

For this purpose I started with this exemple : https://github.com/circuitdojo/air-quality-wing-zephyr-drivers 

I copied gpio_pca953x.c and it's devicetree binding. 

Everything compile without error but it seem the driver init function (gpio_pca953x_init) is never called. 

The code define DEVICE_DT_INST_DEFINE() so it should be called at kernel initialization.

How can I check that DEVICE_DT_INST_DEFINE is properly set and that the device will be initialized by the kernel ? 

Is there a way to debug Zephyr device initialization process ?

Hi Pierre, sorry about the delay

Are you referring to v3.0? NCS v1.9 is using a fork of Zephyr 2.7.99, that might be causing some issues.

Hey again Pierre,

Once again there might be dependency issues, but you should be able to debug this.

It would probably not be able to get any logging before the rtt/serial init-functions have run, but you should be able to set breakpoints to see if DEVICE_DT_INST_DEFINE is getting called.

Thank You, I finally get it working by compiling it as a module. 
Like in the out-of-tree-driver sample. 

I still don't understand why It don't initialize using the other method but the module will do the work.
