Compatibility of SoftDevice S140 v7.0.1 and v7.2.0

Hi

We are now using SDK v17.0.0 for our product and planning to upgrade SDK v17.0.2 because SDK v17.0.0 could no longer be downloaded.

But SoftDevice for each SDK is:

• SDK v17.0.0 : SoftDevice v7.0.1
• SDK v17.0.2 : SoftDevice v7.2.0

By the way, in the SoftDevice release notes:

• This SoftDevice is binary compatible with the s140_nrf52_7.0.1, and memory requirements have not changed. Applications are therefore not required to be recompiled.

Is it guaranteed to use SDK v17.0.2 software with SoftDevice v7.0.1?

Hi 

It should be possible to use SDK v17.0.2 with S140 v7.0.1, yes.

Have you considered upgrading both the SDK and the SoftDevice, so that you can use S140 v7.2.0 instead? 
As the note points out this should not require any changes to the application.

But why doesn't the Compatibility Matrix show this compatibility?

Hi 

The compatibility matrix doesn't necessarily show all possible SDK and SoftDevice combinations, just those that have been properly tested.  

I would definitely recommend using an officially supported SDK and SoftDevice combination though, which is why I asked if using S140 v7.2.0 is a possibility.

It is difficult to use S140 v7.2.0 because update procedure for our products updates only the application, not the SoftDevice.

Thanks for the clarification. If you do decide to use the older SoftDevice version make sure to test your application well before deployment.
