RF test for Zigbee and bluetooth?

As we know 52840 supports Thread,Zigbee and bluetooth,Do we need to test all of them in production test?

I'm not sure whether these 3 protocols are only software ,or they are also related to hardware, like baseband ,PHY ...

Different protocols use different part of low-level hardware...? I'm curious about this,

if so we should run test for all of them.

If not, they share the same hardware, thus I think only one test, eg. DTM test is enough for verifying hardware performance.

Correct me if I'm wrong,thanks.

  • Your assumption is correct, running DTM will ensure that components are mounted correctly and the crystal and radio is fully operational. There is no need to do specific zigbee, thread or ble testing.

We have a application note "Setting up production test using DTM" where we have provided some guidelines on what tests should be performed during your production: https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/topic/struct_appnotes/struct/appnotes_nan34.html

"The level on the production test should be based on the fact that the RF circuitry on every chip from Nordic Semiconductor is already tested, including both transmit and receive functionality."

  • Does it mean that every protocol is running on the same hardware components(PHY),thus all of them are just software things?

  • The radio peripheral can be configured to support various PHY protocols yes, there is no need to test alle protocols in production, you only need to verify the radio is working in one of the PHY configurations. (You can compare with testing a hammer, you can test a hammer by hitting a nail, there is no need to test all kind of nails in production.)
