I'm currently at the stage of developing for my master thesis, a complete system for AoA asset tracking using Nordic solution and I've got some questions related to that because I didn't find a clear answer in specs, articles or here on the DevZone. During PCB design for AoA locator it is not clear for me if the antenna matrix (utilizing pins AIN0-7) used for direction tracking is also used for standard BLE communication between locator and tags or do I have to use seperate general purpose antenna connected to ANT pin? That might be repeated question but does Nordic provide any reference designs for PCB with antenna matrix? I noticed that some demo boards using Nordic chip are using more than 8 antennas and I would like to know how they were able to achieve that? *Edit: I think I've gained some understanding and answers reading carefully related DevZone questions and my 1st & 3rd question are no longer needed.

Sounds like you have an interesting project on your hands! There is a lot of good information available here on DevZone, so good thing that you've searched around here. Though I would also recommend our whitepaper on direction finding if you haven't seen it before.

When it comes to Question 2, are you planning on making the entire solution (angle algorithm etc.) yourself?

Yeah, that whitepaper helped a lot, along with already answered questions here on DevZone.

Plans are to design entire AoA locator, use nRF52833 DK as Tag and for algorithm solution I'll probably use MUSIC or ESPRIT, but I'm aware of that there still might be factors that I didn't take into account and original plans might change.

I see. Then I would recommend you to check out the Antenna Matrix from Insight SiP. Making your own would be a lot more expensive than simply getting one of those. Unfortunately, I can not help you when it comes to getting the reference design yourself.
