Powering development kit with external power supply

Hello!

I need to control several motors using the nRF52832. The problem is that my laptop cannot supply enought current to run the motors, if I try to run it, windows detects a power surge and cuts off power to the usb. I thought a solution would be to power the kit with an external power supply. How would you do that? I have a supply of 7.5 volts, would that be too high for the dk? Looking through the documentation I can see that there is an input for external power, but it's not regulated and can only take 3.3v. That is way too low for my power supply.

Thanks!
