nRF9160 ERASEPROTECT INFORMATIONS

Hi!
I have some troubles understanding the register Erase Protect and before using that I need to understand it more clearly.

I understood that if I activate that register I can't perform any more actions like erasing, flashing or writing code and if I'm not sure how to disable that, I couldn't have any more the possibility to work with the board.

How can I set the key on EraseProtect.disable and where should I insert that to disable the protection?

What is the "debugger" often mentioned in relation to the register Erase Protect?

Hi,

Regarding keys, they must be the same when writing to the registers ENABLEPROTECT.DISABLE from the firmware and from the debugger. You can read more about registers in the product specification.

Erase protection can be enabled/disabled using ERASEPROTECT. The content of the ERASEPROTECT register can be read from the address 0x00ff8030. If that value is different than 0xffffffff, protection is enabled. You can read more enabling device protection.
Regarding debugger, there is no special meaning to it in connection with EraseProtect register. You can read more about debug access port in the documentation under DAP - debug access port.

What do you mean with debugger and firmware relating to nrf9160DK?

Hi,

There is a build-in debugger on the nRF9160DK that is used for debugging and programming. You can use nrfjprog for writing to a desired register.
Regarding firmware, you can read more about programming modem firmware and firmware development mode in the documentation.

How can i use the debugger?

Hi,

The primary debug interface on the nRF9160 is the Segger OB Debugger which is available through USB connection. You can read more in the documentation.
You can connect to the board using regular USB connection and nrfjrpg tool from the command line.
