What RSSI indication is good, average and bad?

Hi everyone,

I have some questions regarding RSSI:

1. Is there any Bluetooth reference that evaluates the RSSI? For example what RSSI range is considered as perfect, moderate and bad?

2. Also, what is the critical RSSI above which the Bluetooth link between central and peripheral breaks?

3. I use nRF52840 and SDK16. In terms of firmware, are there any settings that could potentially improve the RSSI?

  • Hi,

    1. No, not that I'm aware of.
    2. I don't think there is a specific number where the link will break.
    3. You could take several RSSI measurements and average them to get a more correct result as RSSI is very sensitive to external factors. The most important factor is that you have a good RF design.
