Full Modem firmware update for modem v1.3.1

Hi,

I would like to know if I can update the firmware of modem from 1.1.1 to 1.3.1 on Thingy91 (hardware version 1.4.0).

My goal is to use AGPS and PGPS assistance services and I saw somewhere in devzone I need to update the firmware before.

AGPS and PGPS needs to be authentified by nrf_cloud_jwt_generate function and it works only with the last version of modem.

So far I have not been able to connect my device to nRFCLOUD because nrf_cloud_jwt_generate returns an error.

Can you confirme me that ?

Thanks in advance

  • Hi Stephane,

Thanks for your inquiry with us. Since MFW 1.3.0, we have the following requirement for the nRF9160 chip version in the changelog of 1.3.1 nRF91 firmware binaries:

    Before applying this version:

    • Note that this modem firmware is targeted nRF9160 SiP Revision 2
    • It can be used for nRF9160 SiP Revision 1, but only for testing and development
    • It cannot be used for engineering samples of Revision 1 (e.g. DKs or Thingy:91 with version older than v0.9.0
    • After you upgrade to MFW 1.3.x it is not recommended to downgrade to MFW 1.2.x or MFW 1.1.x.(potential file system issues)

Thingy91 HW1.4.0 still uses nRF9160 SiP Revision 1, so if you want to do serious development based on MFW 1.3.x features, you should start with at least Thingy91 HW1.5.0 which uses nRF9160 SiP Revision 2.

    Best regards,

    Charlie
