Android v12 and Pixel phone connection problem

Hello Nordic team!

We are using nrf52832 chip and soft device S332. System runs custom bootloader and main application.

We did not have any major problems with BLE regarding connection and receiving/transferring data. We are in the final stage of developing Android APP.

We experienced some problems with Pixel6 phone and Android v12. Connection is really unstable. Sometimes we are able to connect and sometimes not. If connection is successful immediately after you try to read characteristic our product and phone are disconnected. We tried also with NRF Connect and got same result. 

Funny thing is that we tried bunch of other phones like iPhone, Samsung, Huawei,.... There were no problems with any of them.

Did you maybe experienced same problems?

I am not sure what the problem may be, but are you able to provide some on-air sniffers logs of various successful and not successful attempts for comparison?

If I were to wild guess something you can try (if used in your application):

- Try to remove (comment out) pm_handler_on_pm_evt() call from the pm_event_handler() function in main.c.
- Try to remove (comment out) data_length_update() call from on_connected_evt() function in nrf_ble_gatt.c

the same problems we have also expirienced on a Pixel 4 phone with android 12. You can find attached the logs of the nrf connect and wireshark.

the error output in wireshark is:
Sent Error Response - Attribute Not Found, Handle: 0x0001 (Generic Access Profile)

Hello,

Thanks for providing us the logs. From the trace it appears that the connection is ended by the phone without any clear reasons. Do you have logging enabled on the nRF side so you can check what the disconnect reason is?

Sorry, I meant to ask if you had debug logs from the nrf52832 or a debugger you can attach to the board to find out what the reported disconnect reason is on the nRF chip.
