IEEE 802.15.4 operating frequencies

Hi !

in https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/pdf/nRF52840_PS_v1.7.pdf specified operation frequencies

"

The IEEE 802.15.4 standard defines 16 channels [11 - 26] of 5 MHz each in the 2450 MHz frequency band. The FREQUENCY register of the radio module must be programmed according to table below for correct operation on the center frequency defined for each channel.

"

What mean "must be" in this context ? I have own radio and expect to use any frequency with IEEE 802.15.4  radio.

Or this type of radio must use those frequency from list ? IEEE type of modulation might not work so well on other frequencies like 2402Mhz for example.

  • Yes, the HW does not have limitations, it is OK to modify the channel central frequency on your radio controller if you know what you are doing for testing purposes or in your own custom radio, but just keep in mind the device is not compliant with  IEEE 802.15.4 anymore.

    Best regards,
