ESM Reject Code 38

Hi,

My Thingy91 has suddenly stopped connecting to the mobile network. It came with an ibasis SIM which has data, but since this morning I am getting an ESM 38 + EMM 19 error. I thought it might have to do with my own code, and flashed the latest modem firmware plug GNSS sample but the problem persists. Below is an extract from LTE Link Monitor:

As you can see, there is an ESM code 38 followed by an EMM code 19. Apparently ESM 38 means "the requested service was rejected due to an error situation in the network" and EMM 19 means something was wrong with EMS (there is a failure in the ESM message contained in the EMM message).

Does this mean there is a problem with ibasis (or whoever ibasis has a roaming agreement with here in Australia) network?

  • Update:

    Just insterted the iBasis SIM card into my phone, and it was successfully registered on the network, so no fault with the network (apparently).

    Then I tried a local SIM card (Optus), and used the below directives in prj.conf for GNSS sample:

    CONFIG_PDN=y
    CONFIG_PDN_DEFAULTS_OVERRIDE=y
    CONFIG_PDN_DEFAULT_APN="yesinternet"

    I can see new access point is sent to the modem:

    AT+CGDCONT?
    +CGDCONT: 0,"IPV4V6","yesinternet","",0,0

    After 20 minutes, I get a "<err> gnss_sample: Failed to connect to LTE network" message in LTE monitor.
