Sorry for the slow response on the case. I was out in travel last week, but should have sent you a status update if nothing else. I will do what I can to get you a response by tomorrow. 

If you have made any additional discoveries which could be of interest please share them in the other case. 

Did you try to increase the stack size of the SPI thread in order to see if that would solve the stack overflow issue?
