nrf9160DK how to program via JTAG

hi,

I have a got a nrf9160dk and also a custom board built on nrf9160. I want to know which programmer to use for nrf9160dk first and subsequently can use it for testing the custom board.

I saw many online stuffs and they refer to Jlink models like Pro, plus etc which support Cortex M33. But this supports debugging also. If we dont want debugging support is there any cheaper

programmer to flash the hex file to nrf9160dk and can subsequently support programming the custom board also. Please advise. 

If can use Jlink edu, please advise will there be any difference other than licensing compared to Jlink base, pro or plus hardware wise. Meaning I want to know if for development now if i use Jlink edu then once go production if i buy other Jlink models then will there be any hardware pins wise different?

Are you looking to program your custom board with the nRF9160 DK? If so, you can connect the custom board via Debug Out port P19 on the nRF9160 DK. The DK has an onboard interface MCU to program the nRF9160 or the board controller via USB connector J6. See nRF9160DK Hardware Guide for more information.

Thanks for the reply. But sorry my question was

1.which cost effective JTAG programmer to use for nrf9160dk ?

2 For e.g .If i use Jlink edu for now (meaning to program nrf9160dk) can i use the same programmer for my custom board  which has nrf9160 with just Jtag pins exposed?

the purpose of question 2 is to know if i have to buy another programmer when i move to custom board development.

Hello, 

You will need to look at JLink model overview and find the JLink product that supports M33 devices, and then you need to find whichever is in your price range. 

The nRF9160 DK includes SEGGER J-Link OB Debugger with debug out functionality.
