nRF21540 regulamentation in EU

Dear DevZone,

I would like to add a nrf21540 range extender to my board based on nrf52840 MCU. Our lab is based in Italy and we would need to respect the regulamentation for EU.

I found this page in which the maximum admissible tx power are listed for different regions https://www.nordicsemi.com/products/range-extenders, but I can't figure out wheter adding the extender to my device will be feasible in order to stay within the regulamentation. 

Could you help me with some more explanation on that?

As described in the link you refer to:

** ETSI has a limit of 10 dBm/1 MHz for 802.15.4. Although 802.15.4 specifies 5 MHz channel widths, only 2 MHz of the channel is consumed with the occupied bandwidth. Doubling the bandwidth to 2 MHz adds 3 dB, which leads to 13 dBm.

If you are targeting the nRF52840 running at 8 dBm, the nRF21540 is only allowed to 2 dBm to meet the maximum dBm value in European regulatory.

So, this means that in US you could go with +12db? Do you think it still make sense to add the device if I have to limit it to +2db?

Yes, that is correct.

This is for you to decide. You will need to compare the results against your demands in performance.
