Is nRF52840 Bluetooth classic compatible?

As I found inconsistent information about it, I would like to clarify this:

  1. Is the nRF52840 compatible to both Bluetooth Classic as well as Bluetooth Low Energy?
  2. Would it be possible to pair it with a Bluetooth 2.0 device?

Thank you very much in advance!

This seems quiet confusing to me if it actually only supports Bluetooth Low Energy.

Aha, I see what you mean. Unfortunately, I do not have any control over arduino's description here, but what I think they tried to convey is that the nRF52840 can function either as a Central device('client'), a Peripheral device('server'), or both at the same time, actually! :)

  • Yeah, it's also not entirely wrong, just confusing to me as I'm new to the chipset Slight smile

Maybe it would have helped me if the chipset's own description at https://www.nordicsemi.com/Products/nRF52840 clearly negated any Bluetooth Classic support or at least clearly stated BLE only support. It only states Bluetooth 5.3 with support for BLE. Don't know if that made sense for others as well.

    Anyway, thank again!

That should hopefully be covered by the "Multiprotocol Bluetooth 5.3 SoC supporting Bluetooth Low Energy, Bluetooth mesh, NFC, Thread and Zigbee" since the support for BLE is specifically mentioned, while Bluetooth Classic is not.

I see how this can be confusing for someone new to the chipset though - there is a lot of features and flexibility to familiarize with -, and so I hope that you will not hesitate to open another ticket if you should encounter any other issues or questions in the future - we're happy to help! :)

    Good luck with your development!

    Best regards,
    Karl
