Integrate custom UART protocol with MCUmgr

Hi,

We have a project that has a custom protocol over UART. We also would like to use MCUMgr over UART as well. What would be the recommended method to integrate the two?  Or would I need an additional layer on top that routes the UART messages depending on which protocol is used?

To clarify, the additional layer would determine whether the message is for MCUmgr. If it is it would route it to the MCUmgr subsystem, otherwise it would forward it to our protocol processing scheme.
