The nRF9160 with Hologram SIM connects fine in Minnesota, USA, but not in Winnellie NT, Australia

While testing a new nRF9160 based product with a Hologram SIM card, it connects fine in Minnesota, USA, but not in Winnellie NT, Australia.

Do you have insight into why this would be or advice regarding next steps?

Research shows
I can't confirm Hologram has a roaming arrangement with Telstra

UMNOPROF=0 (in some cases) in combination with +COPS=1,2,“50501” corrects the connection issue
Another comment from Hologram was, "The global Cat-M1/NB-IoT roaming scenario isn’t fully standardized yet"
Is that true and if so how does that effect a product attempting to be globally distributed?

  • Hologram states,

"While we don’t officially have a roaming arrangement with Telstra for Cat-M1 we have seen several Novas and other Cat-M1 devices use that network.

Can you try setting +UMNOPROF to 0 and then attempting a connection. Also, you’ll want to make sure that your SIM is on a global plan and not a US only plan.

    Cheers,
    Maiky

Please note it is on a global plan.

Telstra, I'll have my customer get their feedback .

My hope was to see if Nordic has any helpful information related to your hardware being approved to work on the Telstra network.  I have found in the U.S.A. it is approved for the Verizon network and without an approved Sim card even approved hardware has poor connection performance.

    Thank you,

    Marty
