AT+COPS manual selection

Hello,

Is AT+COPS manual selection mandatory or just a preference?  We have an issue with 9160 choosing a network without PSM if it has better signal quality (when roaming/outside home network coverage). If the manually selected network is unavailable, would modem still connect to another one?

It's not required to manually specify a network via AT+COPS.

If you need to connect to another network, you should specify "automatic network selection".

Automatic network selection is what I'm using now. The point is I would like to lock the modem to a particular PLMN (disallow other PLMNs). Is it possible to accomplish this with AT+COPS, or will it still connect automatically?

If you set AT+COPS to manually search, it will look for the specific network that you provide into this function.

 

As a side note: Please note that there's preferences stored in your SIM, with a database of visitor PLMN's, ie. networks you're allowed to roam to.
