pcb design layout review

Hi

I have designed a beacon with nrf51822 and this is my first time designing a pcb.

I used nrf51822-QFAC-DCDC reference layout. it's a 2 layer pcb.

for the antenna I used AN043 from Texas Instruments. to match the chip to 50 ohm I used discrete matching network and to match the antenna a 1.5pF capacitor(C16) and a 0 ohm resistor as a SMD jumper(R4) which was recommended by Texas Instruments. you can see the details here.

I have attached Gerber files here: Gerber_5F00_nrf51x22_5F00_qfax_5F00_dcdc1.PcbDoc.zip

could you please review my pcb layout and answer some questions i have came across.

should I just leave unused GPIO pins floated?

for matching the antenna can I use the recommended matching components that I mentioned or I should use VNA?

I used 2 sensors in this layout one BME280(U3) for monitoring ambient temperature, humidity and pressure and the other max30205 to monitor body temperature but since these sensors have different temperature range and that may hurt max0205 because of more limited range, I thought to use max30205 module which is shown in picture below to connect it to J2 connector once you need and disconnect it when you don't but I have no idea if this is gonna work?

Thank you.

  • Hi,

this looks fine, other then that you must insert the matching components for the antenna.

Unused GPIO's can be left floating.

You can start with the recommended matching components, but use the VNA to verify and to adjust the components values: see our WP

Ask the vendor for a recommendation.
