Issue about Bluetooth Appearance values and Class of Device

Dear Nordic Engineers

I would like an issue to ask you about Bluetooth Appearance values and class of device.

I read the following file. It's the SIG document

Bluetooth Assigned Numbers.pdf

This document shows  class of device(COD).

I read Bluetooth Core Specification:Vol. 3, Part C, section 8.1.6 (v2.1 + EDR, 3.0 + HS and 4.0)Vol. 3, Part C, sections 11.1.5 and 18.5(v4.0)Core Specification Supplement, Part A, section 1.6, it shows Bluetooth Appearance values don't equal class of device.

I am so discredit and would like to ask you

1. Does BLE have the Class of device?

2. If BLE have the Class of device, how to change this param in examples\ble_peripheral\ble_app_hids_mouse? I don't find any functions and structures to set it.

3. If BLE doesn't have Class of device, can Bluetooth Appearance values replace it?

Hi Wang, 

As far as I know the "class of device" is only applied for Bluetooth Classic not BLE. 

The list of appearance number can be found here. 

In the ble_app_hids_mouse example you can find 

BLE_APPEARANCE_HID_MOUSE is equal to 962 which is 0x3C2 as in the list.
