Can nRF5340 manage with BLE and Wi-Fi simultaneously ?

Hi,

I've developed a hardware platform for a battery operated monitoring medical device.
The nRF5340 is in charge of sensors sampling and communication with either smartphone (BLE) or PC software (USB).
For internet access I had also to include a Wi-Fi module for secure connection to an external AP.
I chose u-blox NINA-W132.
Today I've heard of this nRF7002, and I would like to see if it make sense to use it instead of NINA-W132.
The nRF7002 is presented as a Wi-Fi companion IC to nRF5340.
The question is, can the nRF5340 orchestrate in one software solution all this stuff, I mean BLE, USB and the nRF7002 ?
Furthermore, can the nRF7002 provide all the nice features of a pre-certified module like NINA-W132 ?

Thank you

Gabriele

Yes, the nRF7002 tailored to work with existing nRF devices, with coexistence for running multi-protocol in your application:

  • Thank you Håkon.

NINA-W132 has a integrated PIFA antenna. The device comes certified as a modular transmitter in the following countries: US (FCC), Canada (IC / ISED RSS), Japan (MIC), Taiwan (NCC), South Korea (KCC), Australia / New Zealand (ACMA), Brazil (Anatel), South Africa (ICASA).

What antenna solutions is provided with the NRF7002 ?
Can you give an idea of the regulatory effort needed with the NRF7002 ?

  • Hi Gabriele,

Detailed inquires about roadmap related questions towards future products is something that you need to ask your local RSM about.

Technical support's main task is to provide help on already released products, and we do not have the latest information about roadmap related questions.

    Kind regards,

    Håkon
