DFU for Zigbee and Matter samples

Hi Nordic team

Q1. According to nrf Connect SDK documentation, Zigbee and Matter samples all supported FOTA (firmware update). Where can I find the DFU samples for Zigbee or Matter?

Q2. The DFU for Zigbee or Matter is dual-bank structure? Like, bluetooth DFU used dual-bank zones. If yes, 52840/5340 app only had 1MB flash space, did they have enough flash space

       to implement dual-bank DFU?

Q3. I tried ncs v2.0.0 Matter samples, it was built ok. However, Memory report task cannot work correctly as below. I want to see the built code size. Thanks.

  • Hello,

Q1:The top row in the table you are looking it is showing the samples. So there are no DFU samples per se, there are just various samples that support FOTA. As you can see on asterixis, the Matter samples support FOTA right out of the box, while the majority of the ZigBee samples require some configuring. However, this one does not. You can find all of these samples in the nRF Connect SDK, under /nrf/samples/.

Q2: Yes, they use a dual-bank structure, otherwise they would have nothing to fall back on. When the flash space is limited and you need a dual-bank solution then you can compensate with external flash. With Matter, you would have to use external flash, since the application is so large that you run into this problem. I am not sure if that is necessarily the case with Zigbee however.

Q3: That is odd. Are you able to simply build the sample though?

  • Hi

Q1. I didn't understand what you mean. So, so far, did you release the examples how to update Matter and Zigbee at

current SDK Connect version? If not, did you have schedule when to release them? Since you posted the table at

Nordic homepage, we thought DFU was ready for Matter and Zigbee.

Q2. How to use external flash to make dual-bank DFU for Matter or Zigbee? Same as Q1. We need you guided us how to

          make it for more detail.

Q3. Yes. For Matter sample, it was built successfully. But, memory report cannot work. Did you verify this issue at VS Code?

Yes that is exactly it. And that counts for the samples as well. I just mistakenly thought that you where looking for a single sample called DFU, while the majority of those samples support DFU while also demonstrating other functionality as well.

So those are the DFU samples he have available for Zigbee and Matter, since they do support DFU.

Q2: I see. Have you had a look at this example?

Q3: I just tried it myself yesterday, it seems to work here. Are you seeing the same issue with other samples?
