The docs recommend the nRF5340 DK connected as described with a 10-pin 2x5 socket-socket 1.27 mm IDC (Serial Wire Debug (SWD)) JTAG cable.

Is it possible to use my nRF9160 DK? I will get a 10 pin JTAG cable if possible. I do not own a nRF5340 DK!

Hi,
Is it possible to use my nRF9160 DK?
Unfortunately, nRF9160 cannot program thingy53, but you can use the debug board that comes with the thingy53.

Amanda

OK but how do I use it? Just plugging it in does not work? nRFProgrammer and VS-code both do not Flash when it is pluged in. I have another case open with you on this
Let's back to that case to continue the discussion.

OK it's confirmed that nRF9160 cannot be used as an external debug probe....
