Using nRF Connect Android vs Using nRF Connect for Desktop

Hi,

I came across example ble_sdk_app_alert_notification in the examples\ble_peripherals folder.

 https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.nordic.infocenter.sdk5.v13.0.0%2Fble_sdk_app_alert_notification.html

I got to the line

  1. In Server Setup, click the settings button and select "Load setup"

I noticed there is no "Load Setup" in the Android App.

I would like to use the Android App instead of the Desktop App.

I have to think it is just a matter of manual configuration rather than automatic configuration, but I am unsure if my assumption is correct.

So, my question is: Is there a way to use the Android app instead of using the Desktop app?

Maybe I can figure it out since I have the configuration, but any other help would be appreciated. Thank you,

Thank you,

  • Hi

First off, I see that you link to a very old version of the  Alert Notification Application. Do you use SDK v13.0.0 to build the application, and if so is there a specific reason you do so? I would strongly recommend moving to the latest SDK (v17.1.0) and the alert notification project provided there

You will need to set up the notification server manually on your Android app, as the notification service setup file is made specifically for the nRF52 DKs and the nRF Connect for Desktop app. You can do so by Configuring GATT server in the Android application and add a service with the necessary characteristics to the Android app. Unfortunately we don't have a finished set up file available that does this for you on the Android side, as the example project is strictly made to test on the nRF Connect for Desktop app.

    Best regards,

    Simon

  • Hi Simon,

    Thank you for the response.

I am using SDK (v17.1.0). I did not notice the link was for SDK v13.0.0.

Thanks for letting me know that it is possible to configure the Android App.

The Bluetooth on my laptop stopped working and I would just like to keep using the Android App instead of the Desktop App.

    Anyways thanks again.
