Nrf52 802.15.4

The spec of nrf52 mentiones 'Propriatary RF' as option. I was wondering if that could be used to implement 802.15.4 which would save us an entire IC and power and like basically be amazing.

If not 15.4 then is the range of propriatary or ANT limited to the same range as BLE?

No it won't be possible because in 802.15.4 the bit rate used is 250 kbps. The modulation scheme used in 16-ary orthogonal modulation using Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum technique.

With BLE and with nrf5x chips the modulation scheme used is Gaussian frequency shift keying (GFSK) with BLE having a bit rate of 1 Mbps & modulation index between 0.45 & 0.55. So right at the physical layer there is incompatibility.

Some CC26xx chips from TI has radio compatible with both BLE and 802.15.4, although in my opinion getting started with that chip is arguably harder than nrf5x chips.
