Bluetooth Long Range with Smartphone

Good Day!

I have a Samsung Note 10 smartphone (it supports Long Range) and I want to connect it to an nRF52840 microcontroller using BLE Long Range.

What is the approximate maximum connection distance I can expect, assuming I also use the nRF21540 chip on my board to boost the signal.

I know the distance depends on many factors, but I would like to know if it is possible to establish a connection over 100 meters with the smartphone?

Hi,

Range is really difficult to comment on, because there are so many factors that may contribute either way. There was some testing when Bluetooth 5 Long Range support was released:

The above was with an nRF52840 in both ends of the link, I am not aware of any specific test with a phone, but since all communication is bidirectional, the max range will be limited by the peer with the lowest output power + the peer with the least sensitivity. So, my only suggestion would be to setup a test that meet your use case and see if it is enough.
