nRF9160 - Sending SMS failed with error: 196908

Hello,

My professor bought several nRF9160 boards for our Electrical Engineering department to work on our final class project with. Several students are having a hard time establishing communication with the board. 

While testing the "sms" sample code that is provided by the IDE we run into the following error - 

Sending SMS failed with error: 196908

It would be of great help to get any guidance on this.

Hi, 

What SIM card are you using?

Please be aware that Not all SIM cards have support for SMS, and iBasis is one of these. You will need to contact your local carrier to hear if they have support for SMS on their IoT-based SIMs.

We are using the iBasis esim. All of our parts were ordered in bulk so it makes sense why all our my class mates have not been able to be successful with their projects. Thank you for getting back to us so urgently.

Amanda, do you recommend any American SIM cards capable of SMS that are compatible with the Nordic board?

No, but you could check with the American SIM card provider.

So it doesn't need to be a specific provider? Any SIM card with SMS capabilities can be interfaced with the nRF9160-DK?
