General question about Bluetooth profiles to use

Hi, I attended the Nordic Seminar in Tel Aviv last week and heard several lectures from your experts.

It was recommended that we use a module with Nordic IC rather than using the Nordic ICs directly as we have low quantities and we don't have a lot of experience with Bluetooth.

I was told to look for a module supporting AT commands and UART connection.

Question 1 - I assume UART refers to the way our product MCU talks to the module on the MCU side, rather than on the Bluetooth side, is that correct?

Question 2 - What is the recommended Bluetooth Profile to use if all we want to do is send data and receive data (normally, command / reply format). We want to connect our products to an Android device such as a phone or tablet, in the simplest possible way. What is the best way to do this?

Hi

1. I'm sorry, but I'm not sure what you mean by a module supporting AT commands and UART connection. Most of our third party designed modules (listed here) have multiple GPIOs from the nRF5340 that can be configured to do UART as well as multiple other serial communication standards like SPI and I2C to communicate with peripheral devices. Can you provide some more information on what exactly you're looking for in your module, and I'll try to help you find some good choices.

2. We have multiple Bluetooth sample applications available here in our nRF Connect SDK, and I would recommend either the LED Button Service sample or the peripheral UART sample projects for this test use case. It should be easy to connect to and test both of these applications from I.E. an Android device running the nRF Connect Mobile application.
