I have only one nRF52840 DK and a Android smart phone, and would like to do an experiment about Matter to learn about it.

It is not possible. You need at least one other device as matter controller to test things out.
The Android phone does not support Thread, so it can only be used to commission the device over Bluetooth into Matter and a Thread network. For the phone to interact further with the Matter device, you would need a Thread border router working as a transport gateway between the phone's WiFi to the Thread network. Border router will set up in between controller and matter accessory.
