Cannot open saved ppk2 session data files "1.60920136 gigabytes, but the application you are using is limited to 1.073741823 gigabytes"

During some test I saved a couple of session data files in the PPK2 tool v3.5.3

After trying opening it, I get the following error:

08:59:31.165 The file: C:\ppk-20230116T132437-data-logger.ppk requires 1.60920136 gigabytes, but the application you are using is limited to 1.073741823 gigabytes
08:59:31.167 Error loading from C:\ppk-20230116T132437-data-logger.ppk
The file is 493.911 KB and not 1.60920136 gigabytes.
I already tried to make the sampling buffer size in the advance menu bigger, as that is the only option I could find about data size limits but I cannot make that bigger then 1073 MB.
Has anybody a solution for opening these files?
  • Hi,

This was an issue earlier as well, but was fixed as of v3.4.2 of the Power Profiler app I believe. Can you zip the file and upload it here on DevZone so we can take a look at it on our end (DevZone doesn't support pure .ppk files unfortunately.

On your end, you can also try to make a copy of the file you want to open, and try to open that file in the Power Profiler app.

    Best regards,

    Simon

  • ppk-20230118T092809-data-logger.zip I have a smaller 33.435 KB file attached with the same problem. Also tried to make a copy and open it but get the same error.

Thanks for looking in to it :)

    Best regards,

    Jos

  • Thank you Jos

Just wanted to let you know that I see this issue on my end as well, and I have asked the app developers to look at it. I will let you know when I hear back from them. Thank you for your patience!

    Best regards,

    Simon

  • Hi Jos

I heard back from the developers on this, and the reason is that more memory have been allocated to the sample set than the Windows application supports I'm afraid. Please turn down the amount of allocated memory, to something that gives an estimated RAM requirement lower than 1GB. The "estimated RAM requirement" can be seen above the start button in the Power profiler app. The Linux and MacOS version of the application should support these larger files though, so if you have a MacOS or Ubuntu machine at your disposal you will be able to open the existing file(s) there to review them.

We're looking into fixing this, but don't have a quick fix for opening these files in Windows at the moment I'm afraid.

    Best regards,

    Simon

  • Hi Simon,

Thanks for looking into it. I will see if we can get a Linux machine to open these files in de future. I will play around with sample rates and recording time to get files that I can open on Windows Machines.

When there is a solution found, can I see that in the release notes?

Then I will keep track of that to see if there is a fix made,

    Best regards,

    Jos
