nRF Connect Desktop - serial terminal?

I just updated my "nRF Connect for Desktop" to version v4.0.0. Spotted this new plugin: "Serial Terminal".

Wait... what?

'Is this the long overdue serial terminal that actually uses a "nRF52 Connectivity" device so that we can actually read/write NUS?' I thought... That sure got my hopes up!

So, I installed it. Disappointment. It's just is a serial terminal, not unlike PuTTY or TeraTerm, is that right? The nRF52 dongle continuously spits out "/~" and that's it.

Or is there more to it? Does the dongle accept kind'a AT commands? (spoiler: nope)

May I respectfully ask: is there a NUS terminal in the making? And what is the idea behind this plugin if I may be so bold?

  • I think so too yeah, but I would appreciate an answer from nordic (just not to get my hopes up ;)).

I wrote some "modem" software using adafruit libraties (just because it's simple), running on an nRF52840 dongle. Great stuff, but I no longer have access to a J-Link so I cannot replace the bootloader on my current dongles anymore (which is needed for the adafruit stuff). Gotta rewrite the thing info ncs I'm afraid. Would have really liked if Nordic took that task from me Slight smile
