How to Compile a Nordic example for serialization?

Hi I need to test serialization with Nordic , since I need to use it for my application..

I want to first try it with my Linux Laptop. i.e, Connect NRF51822 to my PC using USB-UART converter and run application in my laptop that will send data to the connectivity chip. I want to know how can I compile the example in my linux PC ? Do any one have any idea in it? Is that possible ?
