programming hex file into nRF51-DK

Dear all,

I get a new nRF51-DK and I am trying to download an hex file into it.

1. I downloaded and installed nRFgo studio.

2. I connected my nRF51-DK to my laptop through usb cable. when the board is connected, the led LD5 is on.

3. I browsed the hex in nRFGo

4. I clicked on "Program" button

I get the log message in attachement

log message: *Possible causes:

• bootloader, SoftDevice or application on target does not match the requirements in the DFU package
• baudrate or flow control is not the same as in the target bootlaoder
• target is not in DFU mode,.....*

Firstly is it possible to program the hex file using only the usb cable that powers the nRF51-DK? Is it possible without a J-link probe ?

How can I know the hex type: application, softdevice or bootloader ?

I tried also the hex file in C:\Program Files (x86)\Nordic Semiconductor\nRFgo Studio\hex and I am getting the same log message.

Thanks for the answer but I still have doubts: I launched J-flash and when but I get the following error message: Could not perform target reset. Failed to connect. What could be the root cause ? When I changed the settings to SWD I get the following error message: Could not find any flash devices. Failed to connect. Which options do I need to setup for J flash ?

Where can I find the softdevice hex ?
