West build does not generate dfu_application.zip for thingy 53

I have successfully installed west and zephyr, and I have successfully build a simple tflite-micro hello_world example, but it just generates the zephyr.hex file. SInce i dont have a J-link to use 'west flash' command, I am using programmer app from sdk Connect tool to upload the firmware via bootloader, but requires de dfu_application.zip to be uploaded.

What can i do to generate this .zip file?

Hi, did you include 

CONFIG_BOOTLOADER_MCUBOOT=y

in your prj.conf file?

Hi! Sorry for the delay response,

I've tried to include CONFIG_BOOTLOADER_MCUBOOT=y (in the prj.conf file) that is in "Building FOTA images" section, but it still does not generate dfu_application.zip. I've also tried to include other configurations options listed on the section, but none of them helped.

You should be able to find the dfu_application.zip file under the folder hello_world_xx\build\zephyr,for eg, shown below is a small part of my build folder for a simple hello world sample inside zephyr:

This sample is build under thingy53_nrf5340_cpuapp_ns.

So, I was able to solve de problem by installing the nrf connect sdk manually:

Previously I've installed the nRF connect SDK automatically, but for some reason i could not use West commands (this can maybe me my fault, don't know for sure). I needed the west command to update the modules, specifically the tflite-micro module. So I decided to use just zephyr + west to build the applications, but seems like that needs the nrf connect to generate the dfu_application.zip.

By installing the sdk manually i can both generate the dfu_application.zip and use west to update the modules and install the tflite-micro.

1) I'm using Ubuntu 20.04

2) To build i'm using both west commands on terminal and I'm using VS Code.

Glad to hear that you solved your issue. Just adding some points, for using the west you can either use the command prompt inside the toolchain manager (in nRF connect for Desktop) or you can use the  nRF terminal inside the VS Code. See the section Building and programming which explains this.
