Support for downgrading pc tools easily.

Hello, 

Recently I upgraded my nRF Programmer to 3.08 and this update has caused issues when trying to flash modem firmware onto my device. I think is due to the fact I am using an old nRF9160 DK board as my programmer. Anyway, I wanted to downgrade my programmer such that I could start working again. This became quite a difficult task since I have not worked with TypeScript or JavaScript before, rendering the source code of older versions useless, and you cannot just download older versions of the programmer (or any of the PC tools for that matter). I did find this old ticket https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/f/nordic-q-a/81700/how-to-downgrade-nrf-connect which provided a JSON file link for nRF Connect 3.7 compatible apps. This fixed the problem, however, I did not want to downgrade too far. So my question is this: is there documentation somewhere that holds JSON file links for compatible apps for all nRF Connect versions? If not, would it possible to create something like this?

Hi Kieran,

You can create local installations of the nRF Connect for Desktop apps, which you can change versions of freely.
This can be done using the following steps:

1. In a terminal on Linux/macOS or Git bash on Windows:
   cd $HOME/.nrfconnect-apps/local
   git clone github.com/.../pc-nrfconnect-programmer
2. Enter the pc-nrfconnect-programmer directory and check out the tag you want to use:
   cd pc-nrfconnect-programmer
   git checkout v3.0.7
3. Restart nRF Connect for Desktop and make sure that the "Local" sources option is checked in the filter:
   
4. You should now see the local app in addition to the official one:
