Programming Custom nRF5340 PCB

Hello,

I am designing a custom PCB using an nRF5340 and am unsure what my options are for how to program it.

I've seen a number of forum posts saying that you can program a custom board using an nRF5340-DK, but unfortunately, I only have two nRF5340 Audio DKs. Is it possible to program a custom board using the Audio DK? I tried to test the instructions from this forum post by programming one Audio DK with another Audio DK and soldering to the SWD CLK and SWD IO test points. However, the Audio DK doesn't appear to have either a SWD0 SEL or a VTG pin. When I tried to program with this method, the specified device serial number was not recognized, and it did not work.

Do you have any suggestions for other methods to program a custom nRF5340 PCB?

Thank you!

Best,

Louie

  • Your best bet is to expose the SWD pins on the nRF5340. There are a number of options for connecting to those pins including traditional 10-pin headers and the TagConnect "plug of nails." Nordic supports the J-Link series of debuggers from SEGGER but other options are available that may require more configuration. I would recommend either purchasing a devkit to use as a debugger or purchasing a SEGGER J-Link.

    Thanks for the question.
