Nordic DevNews #3: Memfault, Neuton, nRF54L Series, Zephyr, and much more

Welcome to Nordic DevNews, where we share key updates and news relevant to developers and engineers working with our ultra-low-power wireless SoCs/MCUs. Let’s dive in!

First and foremost, since our last update, Nordic Semiconductor has made two very exciting acquisitions: Memfault and Neuton.Ai. Let’s explore what that means for you as a developer.

Nordic acquires Memfault: Chip-to-cloud device management

Nordic Semiconductor has acquired Memfault, creating the industry’s first complete chip-to-cloud platform for managing the entire lifecycle of connected products.

With Memfault’s leading cloud services integrated across Nordic’s product portfolio and nRF Cloud, developers gain powerful tools for device observability, management, and secure over-the-air updates. With Memfault, developers can build more resilient connected products and manage them efficiently from development through deployment.

New Edge AI technology: Neuton, ultra-small ML models

Nordic has also acquired Neuton.AI, expanding our AI capabilities. Neuton’s platform makes it possible to create ultra-small (< 5 KB on average) machine learning models. With Neuton’s easy-to-use platform, you can generate ready-to-use ML models for any Nordic SoC in just a few clicks, and no coding or ML expertise is required.

nRF54L Series

The nRF54L Series continues to evolve, now offering four production-ready packages and more in sampling to suit diverse applications.

Check out the blog posts below to learn about the available and upcoming package options, power consumption on the SoC, and how it compares to the nRF52840, and guidelines for pin planning on the nRF54L Series.

Nordic's contribution to Zephyr

Zephyr RTOS has rapidly grown into the most widely adopted open-source real-time operating system for secure, connected, and low-power embedded devices. Hosted by the Linux Foundation and backed by a vibrant community of contributors, Zephyr offers much more than an RTOS kernel—it’s a comprehensive, modular, portable, and scalable ecosystem trusted by thousands of developers around the world.

Nordic has been a leading contributor to the Zephyr Project since adopting the nRF Connect SDK in 2016. Curious how Zephyr grew into the leading RTOS for IoT? Our webinar with Kate Stewart from the Linux Foundation is now on-demand:
