nRF52832 - do i need FCC and EU approval

Hello All,

I am new to this area and i am just starting my development for BLE.

i am planning to use nRF52832 . I want to know that if i am planning to make night lamp using this will i require to get any approval BQB, FCC EU etc authorities?

Thanks RS

  • Usually you need such compliance certification only if you commercially sell the product or otherwise distribute. If it is just your DIY home project or some prototype/demo for more or less laboratory purposes then you don't need anything (unless you radiate so much that you start to seriously disturb some licensed frequency bands or technologies that officials would go after you;)

  • Hi Thanks for update.

Yes, i have client who want to launch it commercially. And i need to make it ready to distribute so do my client require all such certification?

I read that if we are using bluetooth module which is already approved by FCC and EU then we dont require from our side. So is nRF52832 is certified with FCC and CE and EU board?

I know we may have to take BQB certificate but other certification are included?

    Regards, Rachana Shah

  • It seems that you are mixing the terms. nRF52832 is chip which is not certified for anything (except material analysis for future CE) because it doesn't make sense without external components such as tuning and antenna. Yes, you can get pre-certified modules and that will help you with the process BUT then you need to address all the questions to module manufacturer not this forum. In addition you need to check local regulations in each country where you want to sell your final product and e.g. in the US as far as I understand usage of pre-certified components (such as radio modules in the can) don't automatically mean that you could ship the final product without going through certification again. In every case you don't want to base such critical business decisions on the advice from semi-anonymous internet forum, hire some consultant with 10+ years of experience. It will pay off.

  • I fully agree with Endnode here. All I can do from my side is help you Google (which you can do yourself). Instead of spending a lot of time developing a product for your client, go talk to a professional consultant that has a lot of experience in this field. That way, you will know what to do to get the proper regulatory certification. This link could also be helpful. You will also need to get your product certified by Bluetooth SIG to be allowed to sell a Bluetooth enabled device. See the link I posted. Hope that helps!

  • Hello Endnode/Bjorn,

thanks for helpful notes. I will review for ready certified modules in market. Any suggestion which work best with nordiac support : i want to have lamp connect thru BLE to my android app with following features. i want to make LAMP on off, set timer to make it on off auto , flash light brightness change based on distance of app and lamp.

also connect multiple devices from one app at a time.

    Thanks, Rachana Shah
