The suspend event is triggered on the USB host side depending on some criteria we don't really have much control over on the nRF side. I'm not sure I understand what you mean about the setup you have here, but could it be that the USB times out that quickly either due to your laptop timing it out or the application (although the main file doesn't seem to be). Can I paste this main file into I.E. the usbd_hid_generic application and run it, or have you made changes to other .h/.c files as well? If so you need to send me a .zip of your project if you want me to test this on my end.
